John T. Pettit Sr.

John T. Pettit Sr., age 79, passed away at 1:30 pm Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, IL. surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 5, 1932 in Sandusky, IL the son of the late Roland E. and Anna (Eickelman) Pettit. 

 

John married Laneta Lawrence on September 16, 1950.  She survives.

John served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He later was employed as an Electrical Inspector at the McDonnell Douglas aviation company for 32 years in St. Louis, MO. He was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Godfrey, and he enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and Gardening, and being out doors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Laneta, and a daughter and her spouse; Val and Jim Kiel of Elsah, two sons; John Thomas Pettit of Morrison, Co., and Brian Mark Pettit of Denver, CO., five grand children; Brad Reynolds, Beth Ann Pettit, Nichole Zurheide, PFC Christopher J. Kiel and Jessica Pettit, two great grandchildren; Marcus and Vivian Zurheide, a daughter-in-law; Kathe Pettit of Alton, and a sister; Norma “Dot” Heater of Livonia, MI.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Anna Marie Pettit,  and two brothers and two sisters. 

Memorial visitation will be Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 4:30pm until time of memorial service at  6:00 pm, at the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church at 4836 N. Alby, Godfrey, Il. His Pastor Rev. Cal Swenson and John T. Pettit’s son-in-law Rev. Jim Kiel will officiate.

John’s wishes were to be cremated.

Memorials may be directed to the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church Mission Fund.
