John S. Wright, 83, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Born Sept. 28, 1927 in Wood River, he was the son of Elmer and Cora E. (Davis) Wright.
He married Patricia D. Gilbert May 7, 1973 in Roxana. She survives. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during both World War II and the Korean War. He was a petroleum chemical specialist for the U.S. Dept. of Defense. He also was a member of the Traveler’s Protection Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Eddie Hoerner of Chenoa, Ill.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Sarah Wright of East Alton and John Christopher and Kelle Wright of Friendswood, Tex.; his grandchildren, Aaron Douglas Wright, Jay Spencer Wright, Melissa Joe Wright, Jonathan Ross Hoerner and Douglas Edward Hoerner; and a dear cousin Jeanette Lang.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 17 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Daniel Decker will officiate.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to United in Mission at Zion Lutheran Church.
