John Rene Ory, 91 passed away 1:35 a.m. Monday July 7, 2014, at VIP Manor. Born Feb. 8th, 1923 in Cairo, IL he was the son of Joseph Oron and Bella (Clouatre) Ory. A WW II Navy Veteran, he was co-owner of Ory Brothers Marine Service before retiring.
On May 16, 1953, in Wood River he married the former Jane M. Roffman. She died June 25, 1993.
Surviving are two sons, James (Karen) Ory of Edwardsville, Lawrence (Kris) Ory of Amherst, OH; four daughters, Martha (Larry) Miller of Collinsville; Sarah (Loren) Fails of South Lake Tahoe, CA; Elizabeth Pratt of Wood River; and Jacqueline (Jeff) Cress of Edwardsville; 13 grandchildren, Christine Pacewic, David & Catherine Miller, John Ory, Gwen Maechling, Danielle Lemay, Alexander, Megan, and Morgan Fails, Sara, Jane, and Michael Pratt, and Emma Cress; and 7 great grandchildren; brother Flint Ory of Glen Carbon; two sisters Audrey Ory of Wood River, Lelia Nasser of Houston TX.
Preceding him in death were, his parents; his wife; a brother, John L Ory; a sister, Shirley Liley; a granddaughter, Mika Ory; and a grandson, Zachery Fails.
Visitation will be from 4–8 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River. Father James Flach will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hills Cemetery, East Alton.
Memorials may be made to the Ursuline Sisters of Alton.
