John Raymond Dooley Sr, 76, of Alton, went home at 10:18 pm, Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born in Alton on March 14, 1939, the son of the late Corporal Raymond and Edna (Carter) Dooley.

He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Kolesa on February 16, 1956 in St. Charles, MO. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1998.

He was the father of Terri Lynn (Matthew) Milcic, John II (Julie) Dooley and Mimi Dooley.

He had six grandchildren; Aaron, Alyssa, Tony, Jared, Steve and Wesley; seven great grandchildren, Amy, Alejandro, Wesley, Ariah, Alexis, Tristyn and Avaya.

In addition to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he is survived by a sister, Linda (Don) Hudgens of Jacksonville, a brother-in-law; Larry Kolesa of Hamburg and many extended family members.

John attended Alton High School Class of 1955. He served his country as an MP in the Army. After a long tenure with the Elevators Constructors Local 3, he retired as an elevator superintendent. He was active with the Owls & Eagles club. As a shriner, he traveled to many parades and delighted the crowds with his trike skills. John was an avid fisherman and dedicated morel mushroom hunter

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by three sisters; Maryann Neudecker, Janice Lux and Diana Macias.

The family would like to thank Nancy Bennett and her family for the love and companionship they gave John.

Visitation will be at 9 am until the time of the Masonic Services at 10:15 am. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Charles West officiating.

Inturnment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.

Cremation rites have been accorded..  Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
