John Budde Sr

John R. Budde, Sr., 83, passed away  at 2:19 a.m. in his home on Wednesday, June 6,  2018, with family by his side. He was born on August 13, 1934, in Brighton, IL. He was the 8th of nine children born to Emil A. and Minnie E. Budde. On August 24, 1957 he married Eileen M. Bensman in Alton. Together they had five children, 12 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Eileen preceded him in death in 2017.John retired from Owens Illinois Glass Co. after 30 years of service. He was an active member of St. Ambrose Church and Godfrey Knights of Columbus Council 7804, in which he was a 4th Degree Honor Guard. John loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and working in his woodshop. He made hundreds of wood crafts, games and toys, and birdhouses were his specialty. John was known by family and friends as “Mr. Fix It” and he took pride in this nickname. He loved working the annual Lenten fish fry for the Godfrey KCs and cutting onions was his specialty.He was preceded in death by five brothers: Cecil, Cletus, Kenneth, Eugene, and Charles; and two sisters: Alice (John) Bolin and Dorothy (Richard) Nuanez.He is survived by five children: Shelly (Kevin) Green of Palm Harbor, FL; Sheryl (Brian) Luly of Brighton, IL, Sandy Budde of Godfrey; John (Angie) Budde of Alton; David (Lesley) Budde of Godfrey; 12 grandchildren: Sara and Logan Green; Rachel (Nick) Kessinger; Grace Luly; Alyssa, Bob and Zachary Budde; Miranda, Maxwell, and Mark Holland; Dylan and Abby Budde; and two great grandchildren: Hunter Green and Hayden Ryann Budde. He is also survived by one sister, Dolores Gissler, of Alton. Staten-Fine Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Visitation is Tuesday, June 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 pm at St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey. Mass is at 12 p.m. with Fr. Steve Janoski and Deacon Jay Wackerly presiding, followed by a burial at St. Joseph cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Church and the Godfrey Knights of Columbus Council No. 7804. Online condolences can be left at staten-fine.com.
