John Thomas Mundy, 59, died at 3:27 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2016
at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville from complications of pneumonia.
He was born in Carrollton on Dec. 21, 1956, and was the son of the late Sherman & Mamie Irene (Mehlberg) Mundy.
John grew up west of Kane and lived his entire life here in the area. During his lifetime, he held various jobs to make ends meet, but some of his favorites were time spent with Bob Swearingin on his Pepsi route, working with Whiteway Sanition, and substituting in the custodial department with Jersey Community Unit #100. He also was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting or searching for mushrooms.
John was also volunteering for various organizations, and would assist the First Assembly of God and Jerseyville school district from time to time.
He was formerly married to Kimberly Daniels, and together they were the parents of their three daughters, all of whom survive, Emy Nelson, and her husband Paul of Jerseyville, Stacey Sturgill, and her husband, Jesse of Jerseyville, and Mamie Fuse, and her husband Joe of Florissant, Mo.; five grandchildren, Paul Nelson IV, Lauren Sturgill, Ellie Sturgill, Emma Fuse, and Joseph Fuse IV; three brothers and a sister in law, Gary Mundy of Kane, Harry & Melanie Mundy of Kane, and William Mundy of Jerseyville A sister & brother in law, Sherry & Steve St. Aubin of Edwardsville; and his faithful feline companion, China.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jerome Narup; and a nephew, Justin Mundy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Robert McAdams will officiate.
Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
