John Chambers

John Francis Chambers, 79, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Jerseyville Manor.  He was born February 11, 1932 in Godfrey, the son of Raymond and Katherine Chambers.  He married the former Frieda Marie Krotz, and they shared 59 years of marriage, before her death last year.  He was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church, worked at Olin Brass for 35 years, was a dairy farmer, he loved to hunt and fish especially with his sons and grandsons, was an expert carpenter, wood craftsman, and baked many dozens of his “delicious ranger cookies” at Christmas time. 

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sharon Chambers of Godfrey, Russell and Sandy Chamber of St. Charles, MO, four daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Lee Eagleton of Fieldon, Patricia and Dave Hutchins of Brighton, Diane and Brad Newell, and Christine and Kevin Dilks all of Jerseyville, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, six sisters, Joeanna and Bob Campion of Godfrey, Elizabeth and Howard Kelly of Rockbridge, June Gerson of Fieldon, Ida and Dale Pike of Worden, Mary and Jim Wilton of Medora, Carol Powell of Brighton, and a beloved brother, Raymond Michael “Buddy” Chambers, and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey.  The Reverend Kelly Mitteis will officiate. 

Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. 

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Faith Lutheran Church.
