John Lahey

John Edward Lahey, 64, died unexpectedly at 2:37 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2012 at his residence.He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 30, 1947, the youngest of seven children born to the late Benjamin C. & Dorothy (Fleming) Lahey.John attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School, and graduated in 1966 from Jersey Community High School.  He soon entered the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas.After returning home, he began working at Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville, and later became a truck driver working for UPS and various other companies, including Hansen Trucking in Jerseyville, retiring from Brandt Trucking in St. Louis, Mo.Surviving are his two sons & daughters in law, Robert Allen & Nicky Lahey of Youngsville, La., and John Brian & Misty Lahey of Wappela, Il.; three grandchildren, Hudson, Mason & Julia Lahey; two step grandchildren, Megan Williams & Ashley Young; a brother & sister in law, Ben & Connie Lahey of Bethalto; two sisters & a brother in law, Mary Ellen Lahey of Jerseyville, and Carol & Joe Nord of Carrollton; his former companion, and mother of his two sons, Jan Witt of Jerseyville, and her son, David Meuth of Godfrey;a sister in law, Linda Lahey of Jerseyville;  along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Mark Lahey; and three brothers, Gerald, Thomas & Richard Lahey.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military rites.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to the Jerseyville American Legion Color Guard.
