John E. Carroll, 94, died at 5:43 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.He was born in Hamburg on June 12, 1919, and was the son of the late John Walter & Mary Elizabeth (Foster) Carroll.A retired carpenter employed with Hellrung Construction, John was a devoted husband, father and grandather, and will be deeply missed.He married the former Mabel R. Becker on Aug. 24, 1938 in Jerseyville, and together they have been blessed with 74 years, 10 months and 3 days of marriage.Surviving are his wife, Mabel Carroll of Jerseyville; two daughters & sons in law, Patsy & Harry Tolbert of Jerseyville, and Adaline & Robert Schobernd of Godfrey; a son & daughter in law, John & Emily Carroll of Carrollton; nine grandchildren & their spouses, Cory & Paul Pohlman of Jerseyville,Kenny & Tammy Mager of Pittsfield, Ginny Becker of Godfrey, Jeff & Carla Bland of Godfrey,Rhoda & Steve Scarce of Missouri, Carlene & Jerry Lewis of Alton, Andy & Brenda Carroll of Carrollton, Jennifer & Jason Brown of Gillespie, and Amy & Steve Cannavo of Newark, De.; 14 Great Grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; a brother, James Carroll of Pittsfield; and a sister, Shirley Sloan of Hamburg.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son in law, Lyle Mager; and three brothers, Cecil Carroll, Jerry Carroll, and Robert Carroll.Visitation will be from 3 p.m., Monday until time of funeral services at 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg.In honor of his late son in law and dear friend, memorials may be given to the Silver Creek Cemetery in Kampsville.
