Jocelyn Harper

Jocelyn A. Harper, 71, of Granite City, IL, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, MO.

She was born Aug. 29, 1953 in Fort Ord, CA to the late Joseph J. and Cecilia S. (Alidon) Pingel.

On June 26, 1971, she and Michael D. Harper were married in Madison, IL. He survives.

Jocelyn was an R.N. for many years, working at Touchette Regional Mecial Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital and as a travel nurse. She worked at several nursing homes as the Assistant Director of Nursing as well as with home health serving children on vents.

She was also a member of St. Mary’s St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Madison where she loved to sing in the choir and served the St. Ann’s Altar Society. She was a master at crocheting and created many beautiful pieces and blankets, some of which helped support St. Ann’s Society at fundraising auctions.

Jocelyn also loved to play canasta at the Apple Tree every week as well as playing games with family. She was an avid St. Louis Blues and Cardinals fan and loved the Beatles.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by a daughter: Jenee’ Williams of Granite City; 2 sons: Michael A. (Debbie) Harper of Granite City and Mark A. Harper of Kissimmee, FL; 6 grandchildren: Aaron (Macey) Alexander, Julian Williams, Rebecca Williams, Cloe Slinkard, Gregory Williams and Zachary Harper; 3 great-grandchildren: Emilia, Hazel and Victor; a brother; Walter (Carla) Pingel; 3 sisters: Joetta Pingel of St. Louis, MO, Jamie (Dale) Wilhelmy of Granite City and Jenise Wilson of Collinsville, IL; and a brother-in-law: Louis Arnold.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Jacqueline Arnold; and a brother: Warren Pingel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for masses.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 at St. Mary’s St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Madison, IL with Fr. Stephen Thompson as celebrant. A nurse honor guard will take place just prior to the start of mass. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
