Joanna Enoch

Collinsville |

Joanna Collinson Enoch, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 26, 2022, following a brief illness.

Joanna was born in 1943 in Long Beach, California to Josephine (Farmer) and John Collinson.  Major Collinson was a pilot in the former Army Air Corps, and later the Air Force. Her sister Julie was born 18 months later, and the family moved frequently in the United States and Japan until Major Collinson was tragically killed in a mid-air collision in Nevada in 1956.

Joanna, Julie, and their mother settled in Springfield, MO, where Joanna attended junior high and high school as an outstanding student, active in clubs and the “Lassies” Drum and Bugle Corps.  She went on to attend Drury College where she earned a B.S. in Chemistry and was a member of Tri-Delta Sorority. Joanna later earned an M.S. in Educational Technology from Southern Illinois University.

Immediately following college, Joanna worked for the Kirksville College of Osteopathy as a research assistant.

In 1965, Joanna married William Enoch and they settled in Collinsville. In 1971, they welcomed daughter Sarabeth.

Joanna taught science and chemistry in Collinsville Unit 10 Schools for 33 years. She was a popular Advanced Placement Chemistry teacher and cheerleading coach at Collinsville High School before retiring in 2001.

Joanna was active for many years in regional cheerleading as a coach, judge, and board member of the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association.

After retirement, Joanna and Bill traveled frequently, often visiting their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in Chicago. She enjoyed golf, regular dinners with friends, taking care of their pet dogs, and time on the gulf shores of Florida and the Lake of Ozarks.

Memorial visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. Masks are requested to be worn.
