Jo-Ann Roberts, age 93, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Liberty Village in Jerseyville, IL.
She was born on June 10, 1931, in Alton, IL the beloved daughter of Marguerite (McCullough) and George Edwards, her step father whom she admired and adored.
Jo-Ann married the love of her life, Jimmie K. Roberts on March 10, 1951 in Alton, IL. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1989. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Donald Killam and Jim Killam, along with five step-siblings, Bette Gibbons, George Edwards, Robert Edwards, Roger Edwards and Jerry Edwards.
Jo-Ann is survived by a loving family. Two children and their spouses Gregg (Nancy) Roberts of Bethalto, IL, Brenda (Mark) Gaines of Rosewood Heights, IL Three grandchildren, Kyle (Carrie) Gaines of Lake St Louis, MO, Kayla (Kevin) Yost of Rosewood Heights, IL, Megan (Michael) Antonovich of St. Jacob, IL. A source of pride later in her life were four cherished great-grandchildren Addison Gaines, Logan Yost, Harper Yost and Ezra Antonovich.
Jo-Ann and Jim built their life together in Rosewood Heights, IL (which she truly considered the greatest place on earth) where she was a devoted and happy homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking (especially Christmas cookies), tending her many floral plants, reading, golfing with friends and traveling.
After Jim’s death she remade her life by enjoying family and watching her family grow. She loved the numerous outings with her “gal pals”- shopping, dining out, playing cards and vacationing together. She appreciated their friendship immensely, treasuring the many wonderful memories of the times they shared. Jo-Ann’s neighbors were dear to her also. They were like extended family, providing their support in the many years since Jim’s passing.
Jo-Ann was a member of the 12th Street Presbyterian Church in Alton, IL for 65 years prior to its closure. She served many terms as a Deacon in the Church and was also a member of the Session.
Per her expressed wishes, there will be no visitation, and burial services will be private.
If you wish to pay tribute to her memory in a meaningful way, please make a donation to a local food pantry or an animal protection society of your choice, No one ever visited her home that was not offered a tasty treat whether they were a human, or a canine friend.
