Joan Maxine "Nanny" Foster, 90, formerly of Kane, died at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at her residence.
She was born in Kane, Illinois on July 19, 1934, one of seven daughters born to Burl and Violet (Winters) Crawford.
A longtime resident of Kane, she was a member of the Kane Baptist Church, and was employed as an nurse's aide at the old Jersey Community Hospital on Pine Street, and for many years worked for Drs. Joson, Huang, Sarma and Kurella.
She also served as a bartender for many years at the Jerseyville American Legion, Busch's Bowling Alley, and the Kane Legion. She was always up for a good card game, and was on numerous bowling teams throughout the years, a few being Umphress Printing and Gray's Trucking.
She married Blythe W. "Bill" Foster on October 1, 1949 in Jerseyville, and together they shared 41 years of marriage before his death on July 18, 1991.
She is survived three grandsons and their companions, Timothy Price and Kyle Pohlman of Jerseyville, Joseph Price and Nikki Smith of Hillview, and Tony Price of Kane; four great grandchildren, Myah Price, Hayden Price, Rachel Price and Anthony Price; a dear friend, Dana Calvin,and her daughter, Diana Calvin, whom "Nanny" considered a granddaughter, and her companion, Tanario Carpenter of Jerseyville.
She is also survived by her four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jean Bryant of Florissant, Mo., Joy Bray of Jerseyville, Jane and Frank Snyder of Alton, and June and Delbert Heberling of White Hall; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Price on Jan. 6, 2004; a sister, Janet Kallal, an infant sister, Jacqueline; and a dear companion, Gene Ritchey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Frank DeWitt will officiate.
Burial will be in Kane Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Kane Baptist Church.
