Joan Florence "Ma" Staton, 67, died at 2:40 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care in Jerseyville after a battle with larynx cancer.She was born in Alton on June 4, 1944, and was the daughter of the late William & Goldie (Stewart) Porter.She was a beautician for many years, and had worked at Glamour Girls Salon in Alton, and was also a bartender as Sengers Tavern in Grafton for many years, where she affectionately obtained her nickname, "Ma".She married Gerald "Monk" Staton on April 13, 1974 at the Grafton Assembly of God, and they shared 18 years together before his death in 1992.Surviving are a son, Mark Porter, and his companion, Josephine Talbert of Grafton; two grandchildren, Christoper Porter and Stephanie Porter; two sisters & a brother in law, Barbara & Don Williams of Beaverton, Or., and Mickey Swarts of Salem, Or.; a brother & sister in law, Bill & Gail Porter of Antioch.She was preceded in death by a son, Matthew "Mater" Porter on July 27, 1989; a sister, Bobby Hayes; and a brother in law, Ross Swarts.Per her request, her body has been cremated.Family & Friends are invited to a graveside service to be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday at the Rosedale Cemetery.Memorials may be given to her family, in care of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
