Jerry W. Nairn

Jerry W. Nairn, 49, died unexpectedly at 1:20 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2009 in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was born on Oct. 1, 1959, in Alton, one of four sons born to the late Gerald "Windy" and Alice Marie (Bradfisch) Nairn. Jerry grew up in Grafton, where his father was a long term mayor, and graduated in 1977 from Jersey Community High School.  He married his high school sweetheart, the former Betty Crull on Oct. 1, 1976 at the United Methodist Church in Grafton, and they have shared and enjoyed nearly 33 years together. He began working at B.J. Schroeder Appliances in Jerseyville, and was a 20 year employee of Owens-Brockway in Godfrey before retiring.  A servant in many ways, not only to his family, but to his community as well, Jerry always found work where he was able to help and assist others.  He was a police officer for the villages of Grafton and Brighton, as well as serving as a deputy with the Jersey County Sheriffs Office.  He later became employed as a Unified Intervention Deliquent Service Counselor through the Jersey County Probation Office, and was also employed with the Illinois Youth Center at Pere Marquette in Grafton.   Later he became the Director of Maintenance at the Alton YWCA, and was currently employed in that same capacity with the City of Grafton.  Wherever it was the Jerry was working, he mad sure he was able to make another life more enjoyable. In his free time, Jerry was a dedicated and loving family man who loved to entertain his children, grandchildren, and many friends at their "Redneck Resort" and enjoyed boating, motorcycling  and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Betty Nairn of Jerseyville; two daughters & sons in law, Krista & Derek Barnard of Alton, and Alison & Jim Clark of Jerseyville; one son & daughter in law, Jeremy & Tiffany Nairn of Shipman; six grandchildren, Connor, Windy Ann, and Ian Barnard, and Annamarie', Emma & Tessa Clark; two brothers & sisters in law, Russ & Kari Nairn of Jerseyville, and Chris & Lisa Nairn of Dow; neices & nephews, Kelsee & John David Nairn, and Olivia & Luke Nairn. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, David John Nairn; his mother in law, Alice (McGiffen) Crull, his father in law, Plowman Laverne Crull; and a nephew, Matthew Crull. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m., until time of funeral services at 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Mark Myers, and Jerry's brother in law, Rev. Bob Prettyman officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.' Memorials may be given to a fund established to benefit his grandchildren in care of the funeral home.
