Jerome Banghart

Jerome F. Banghart, 85, passed away at 9:03 pm Thursday December 23, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.


He was born on December 4, 1925 in Hardin, IL, the son of John F. & Marguerite (Godar) Banghart.



He married Alice Narup on August 10, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  She survives.



He entered the Army on March 29, 1944.  He was in combat duty in Germany and fought the Battle of the Bulge.  He was honorably discharged on May 20, 1946.



He was a machinist for 45 years at Olin Corporation, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Alton, and a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.



In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly & Kem Laux and Mehlia & Bill Simon, all of Alton; seven grandchildren and spouses, Corrie & Tom Wilson of Piasa, Christopher, Benjamin, and Claire Laux, Abigail Sames, and Bryce & Brayden Simon, all of Alton; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Hoehn of Alton.



He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Surgeon.



Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Monday December 27, 2010 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Jim Walther OMV officiating.



Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.



Memorials may be made to: St. Mary’s Capital Fund or Masses.
