Jerome Becker

Jerome A. Becker 89, a long time resident of Jerseyville, died after a short illness on July 30, 2011 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Born on April 8, 1922 he was the eighth child of the late Joseph and Nora (Goetten) Becker. Jerome was a veteran of WWII servicing in the Army from 1942 till the end of the war in 1945.  He married  Delores Naurp on September 30, 1950 at St Mary’s Church at Westwoods. They settled in Fieldon where they raised two children . They shared a life of 60 years together.  Jerome was retired from Shell Oil Company where he worked for over 30 years as a carpenter. He had the ability to make beautiful things out of wood.  Many family members have benefited from Jerome’s skill as a carpenter. After he retired Jerome spent many days at the K of C looking for a card game.  He loved a friendly game of cards.

Surviving Jerome are his wife Delores Becker who currently lives in Fishers Indiana, a brother Joe Becker of Fieldon, an a sister Eleanor Kirbach of Carrollton. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in -law Greg and Sharon Becker, and daughter Sara Becker all of Fishers Indiana.

Jerome is also survived by three grandchildren and their families:  Scott Becker and his wife Becky of Arlington Heights Illinois, Shawn Becker and his wife Amy of Columbus Ohio, and Kristen Becker of Fishers Indiana.

There are four Great Grandchildren.  Jerome referred to them as the 4 little Becker Boys.  Owen, Gannon, Knox and Ryan. 

Jerome was preceded in death by three sisters: Hilda Wacker, Francis Rice and Dorothy Becker.  And four brothers: Edward Becker, Clarence Becker, Marcus Becker, and Bernard Becker.

Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 4  to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m.

A funeral mass will be held at Holy Ghost Church in Jerseyville on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10 a.m., with Father William Hembrow officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fieldon.  

Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Schools of Jerseyville or to Masses.
