Jennifer Brueggeman
Glen Carbon |

Jennifer Ann Brueggeman, 62, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at home, surrounded by family.
Born Apr. 7, 1962 in Alton, she was a daughter of Tedford and Wanda (Wheat) Lane.
Jennifer worked as a preschool teacher and was a talented writer. At one time, she and her sisters and brothers-in-law owned and operated their own business, Shreddi-Mix, which created papier maché volcano kits. One of her passions was creating Diamond Painting art, and her home, as well as the homes of her loved ones, have many pieces of her artwork.
Compassionate to a fault, Jennifer would give her last five dollars to anyone if it would help them. Known as Mama J to friends of the family, she was considered a maternal figure to youths and ne’erdowells. Strangers were drawn to her after meeting her, and then they were strangers no more.
She had a biting wit but always spoke from a place of kindness and understanding. She was never judgmental but always had the hot goss. In her waning years, she took great joy in living with her children and grandchildren. She loved getting together with family, especially Christmas for which she spent the entire year shopping and preparing.
A lover of music, you could catch her dancing with her grandchildren to the Beatles or T Rex, or losing herself in the music of David Bowie or the Mountain Goats. She was an avid reader and lover of television both sophisticated and trashy. She found joy and beauty everywhere. She leaves behind many friends and family, who will miss her.
Survivors include her children, Michael Brueggeman and his wife Brookelynne Warra of Alton, Katie (Darren) Lawson of East Alton, Libby (Kyle) Sykes of Glen Carbon, and Rachel Brueggeman and her fiancée Kory Meyer of East Alton; grandchildren, Evie, Rory, Markovius, Georg, Zoe, Bodhisattva, Elijah, Isaac, and Gabriel; a sister, Teddi Slayden of Bunker Hill; two brothers-in-law, Tom Chamberlain of Wood River and Kenneth Webster of Clayton, MO; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Tessa Brueggeman; two sisters, Billie Chamberlain and Angela Webster; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Slayden.
Memorial visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 23 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 1 p.m. until services begin at 3 p.m.
