Jennie Desse

Jennie Desse, 96, passed away at  5:40 am on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at VIP Manor with her family by her side. 



She was born on March 14, 1914 in Royalton, IL, the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Aurilla) Ciota.

 

She married Pierre Joseph Desse Jr. on March 9, 1931 in Royalton, IL.  They married at the Justice of the Peace and later remarried at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on October 10, 1986. 



Jennie worked at the Savoy Hotel in Alton in her younger years and at Moor’s Bakery in Bethalto.  She also owned and operated The Combination Shop in Bethalto.  She was a chartered member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. She attended Royalton schools.


Jennie along with her husband Joseph had two children, Fred Desse and Violet and her husband Daniel Perkhiser with whom she made her home for the past 16 years,  all of Bethalto; eight grandchildren and their spouses,  Norma Martin of East Alton, Betty and Myron Thompson of Bethalto, Shirley and Bob  Maronie of Bethalto, Steve and Jennifer Desse of Edwardsville, John and Jamie Perkhiser of Godfrey,  Nathaniel and Maria Perkhiser, Jennifer Price all of Bethalto, Amanda and Jamie Vogel of Edwardsville; fourteen great grandchildren; nine great, great grandchild and her nieces and nephews. 
 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters-in-law, Viola Desse and Pat Desse, three sisters, Jessie Krakowiak, Mary Ciota and an infant sister and a brother, Dominic Ciota. 

 

A Rosary service will be at 3:30 pm with visitation beginning at 4 until 8 pm Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  A funeral Mass will be at 10 am Friday, December 24, 2010 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler and Father Jim Flach officiating.



Burial will follow at the Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery.



Memorials may be made to the Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church or School.
