Jeffrey McElroy

Alton |

Jeffrey Lee McElroy, 70, of Alton, passed away in Wood River, on Sunday, January 14, 2024.

He was born on July 27, 1953, in Alton, the son of the late Frank H. and Roberta Jane (Glass) McElroy.

He is survived by his brother, Mark McElroy, of Godfrey; his cousin, Barbara Bohannon-Johnson, of Texas; two nephews, Ben McElroy, of Texas, and Clayton (Kristi) McElroy, of Hawaii; four great-nieces and nephews, Nick (Angel) McElroy, Payton Jane McElroy, Tristan Andrew McElroy, and Khloe Nicole McElroy; close friend, June Bug; as well as his entire dedicated team at the shop.

After graduating from Alton Sr. High School, Jeffrey received his Horticulture Associates Degree from Danville Junior College. In 1975, he accepted a designer position at Dick's Flowers in Wood River where he spent thirty years honing his craft. In the mid 1990's, Jeffrey was presented the prestigious Master Floral Designer Award by FTD.

On January 9, 2006, Jeff celebrated the Grand Opening of his own shop, Jeffrey's Flowers by Design. He attributed his green thumb to his grandmother who encouraged his sense for flowers at an early age, and he would often say "I feel privileged my mother's designer DNA is running through my veins". He enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping, and being with all his friends and family. And, of course, playing with his special pal and companion, Parker.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 4-7pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to The American Heart Association.
