Jeanne (Joehl) Rynders, 90, passed away at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Cedar Creek of Godfrey with family by her side. Born December 6, 1933, she was the daughter of Al Joehl and Marcella (Haas) Joehl Rice. She married her high school sweetheart, Tom Rynders, on September 5, 1953, while Tom was home on a 3-day pass from the Army. Together they shared 59 years of marriage. Tom preceded her in death on January 22, 2013. Jeanne worked in the hospital at Camp Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas where Tom was stationed.
They returned to Alton where they built a home together and raised four children. Surviving are four children, Tim (Jeanne) Rynders, Teri (Rusty) Cope, Ted (Nancy) Rynders, and Trent (Val) Rynders, nine grandchildren, Amanda Wiesemann, Jackie Cope, Laura Gerdes, Danny Rynders, Jenna Gerdes, Sarah Henthorn, Samantha Held, Erica Bowen, and Victoria Rynders, 10 great-grandchildren, Allison Wiesemann, Haley Wiesemann, Carl Gerdes, Cecilia Henthorn, Norah Henthorn, Mary Jane Henthorn, Charlotte Held, Anthony Bowen, Joseph Bowen, and Lillian Bowen, and her sister, Marce Corbett. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Frank Rice and her brother-in-law, Ed Corbett. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
