Jeane Campbell

Jeane G. Campbell, 94, of Glen Carbon passed away peacefully on a sunny day, Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 7:01 pm at Meridian Village, with her son by her side. 

 She was born on May 11, 1926 in the rural delta of Arkansas, the daughter of Joe Curtis and Mable Garrett.  She married Leroy Homer Campbell in Alton on June 7, 1947.

 During WWII, after graduating from high school, Jeane moved to Alton, where she met and married “Hump” Campbell. She worked as a secretary at Millers’ Mutual until he graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy. In 1950, they started their family. Together they owned and operated Upper Alton Pharmacy, Campbell Pharmacy and Campbell Card and Gift Shop in downtown Alton. They were married in Upper Alton Baptist Church and later were members of First Presbyterian Church in Alton. They retired to Peoria, Arizona in 1983 where they enjoyed the sun and were avid golfers.  She returned to the Riverbend area in 2012.

She is survived by daughter Marcy Kaminski (Tom) of Santa Fe, NM, their children, Gretchen Madrigal and James Craig Yaeger, Gretchen’s children, Alexys and Garrett Templin; daughter Linda Smith (Gary) of Edwardsville, IL, their children, Jennifer (Steve), Alyssa, Mary (Keith), and Barbara (Ilyas) and their grandchildren, Jack, Grace, Anna and Ella; and son, Dr. Bradley Campbell (Sarah) of Fayetteville, AR, and their children, Lydia and Christian Campbell;  dear cousins, Pat and Marlene Schreiber; and many golf and bridge friends over the years.

 Jeane was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Joe and Steve Garrett. 

Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded by Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home.

A celebration of her life and a burial service will take place at a later date. 

Memorials can be made to the Benevolent Care Fund at Meridian Village, 101 Evergreen Ln., Glen Carbon, IL 62034.
