Jay Eugene Kramer, 85, died at 2:45 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County, Mo.

He was born in Jerseyville on Sept. 23, 1927, and was the son of the late Arthur F. & Edna (Carpunky) Kramer.

Jay grew up on the family farm and attended Jersey Community High School.  He enlisted with the U.S. Army and served honorably with the occupation forces in Japan.

He returned home and began working at Laclede Steel Company in Alton, where he retired from the tube mill in 1990 after more than 40 years of service.

He married the former Nola L. Hunter on Nov. 12, 1948 at the home of her sister & brother in law, Kenneth & Millie Ingersoll in Jerseyville, and they just recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are his wife, Nola Kramer of Jerseyville; a daughter, Patricia Kramer-Brown of Urbana; four grandchildren & their spouses,  Katelyn Brown of Urbana, Rawley Greene of Corvallis, Oregon, Markus & Lauren Milster of Forney, Tx., and Todd & Rachel Milster of Garland, Tx.; two great grandchildren, Bryce & Dylan Milster; two sisters, Joan Nensteil of Jerseyville and Eleanor Johnson of Shipman; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Suzanne (Kramer) Milster on Sept. 2, 2008; his twin brother, Jerry Kramer; and a sister, Doris Cox.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Mark Myers and Dennis Hill officiating.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with full military graveside rites being conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville or to the Jersey County Historical Society which Jay volunteered countless hours to and established many close friendships.
