Janice “Jan” J. Hoskins found rest with God Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the age of 74. Jan had been battling failing health for several years and succumbed to renal failure in a medical facility near her home in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Jan was born May 13, 1937 in Alton, IL to Oral and Mildred (Nickell) Shearburn. She graduated Alton High School in 1956 as an active member of the Choir, Alton Hot Shots Pep Club and Spanish Club. As an adult, Jan was an Arthur Murray dance instructor and later attended Lewis & Clark College to become a state board certified LPN to care for terminally ill patients with Visiting Nurses. She enjoyed being a part of the Shell Oil Bowling League with her husband and playing Pinochle with friends. She particularly loved participating backstage in the Alton High School Summer Chorus programs in 1974-76 and 1982-88 while her children were members of the chorus.
Jan lived most of her life in the Alton area until moving to Florida in 2001 where she would spend her retirement years. She is survived by husband Elvin “Ludy” L. Hoskins; sons, Richard “Ricky” Brown and son, Reese S. Hoskins of Rushville, IL; daughters, Christy A. Pryor and Lauren Kelley Scioscia; granddaughters, Taylor J. Pryor of Altamonte Springs, FL and Destiny N. Brown of Alton, IL.
She is predeceased by son Lindy Leidner.
Services to be held at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home located 1313 Delmar Street, Godfrey, IL 62035 (618) 466-3573. Viewing will be held Friday, October 14, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 10:00 am until the funeral begins at 11:00 am.
