Janet F. Gillespey, 74, died at 3:09 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born November 12, 1936 in Alton, she was the daughter of George “Red” and Helen (Kranz) Walker. On April 30, 1960 she married Dale U. Gillespey at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1954 and then from St. Joseph School of Nursing and was a nurse until the birth of her son at which time she became a homemaker. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Surviving is her husband, Dale, her son, Michael Gillespey of Godfrey, a ½ brother, Larry Benson and his wife Doris of Springfield, IL, and seven cousins, Tony, Don, Teresa, Bobby, Jerry, Steve, and Kathy. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center Development Office at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
