Jane Elizabeth Curran, 91, entered into the peace of God on May 25, 2012 at Robings Manor in Brighton.
She was born on March 5, 1921 in St. Louis, MO the daughter of James and Margaret (Dennison) Curran.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was active in the St. Ann Altar Society and Golden Age Society. Jane was an active member of St. Mary’s, especially of the Legion of Mary.
She was preceded in death by both parents and an infant sister Margaret Ruth.
The family moved to Alton in 1925 and Jane attended St. Mary’s School and Marquette High School and graduated in 1938 and Ursuline Business School in 1939. She entered the work force and in 1944 went to work at the Alton Post Office for 32 years until she retired in 1976. She subsequently worked for Phyllis Schafly and in 1988 she became sacristan at St. Mary’s Church, a ministry to which she devoted herself and which she loved. She fully retired in December 2003.
Jane’s survivors include her cousins, Sr. Mary Dennison of the Cenacle of Houston, TX; Patricia Dennison deKay of Durango, CO, Dede Mathews of Bethalto, one of Pat’s children who along with her husband Chuck and children, Lyssa and Andy, were Jane’s family contact and helpers. Dorothy Hrdlicka, Donna Catanzaro and Robert Gunn, all of St. Louis.
Jane moved to St. Clare’s Villa in the fall of 2007 and cherished her time there and loved her view of the Mississippi River and bridge. She was always a sweet and cheerful presence and all will miss her.
We thank all of the staff of St. Clare’s Villa for their loving care which made Jane’s last years such happy ones. We also thank the nurses and staff at Robings Manor who eased her last days
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm at Tuesday May 29, 2012 at Staten- Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Wednesday May 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL.
Memorials may be made to Masses.
