Jan Towell

GRAFTON-  Jan Ira Towell, 71, died unexpectedly,  Monday, May 20, 2013 in the emergency room at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.He was born in Jersey County on Jan. 22, 1942, and was one of eight children born to the late Ira and Alta (Wright) Towell.Jan married Aleta "Teater" Weed on Dec. 11, 1964 in Grafton and together they shared 48 years together and raised their two children, Richard & Donna.Surviving are his wife; a daughter & son in law, Donna & Anthony Renken of Grafton; a granddaughter, Jenna Renken of Grafton; two brothers, Charles Towell and Dan Edward Towell both of Otterville; two sisters, Sharon Carter and Joyce Ingold both of Godfrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Ira Towell on Jan. 28, 2002; a brother, Grover Towell; and two sisters, Nancy Fairchild and Wilma "Bonnie" Cervantes.Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Graveside services will immediately follow at 6:15 p.m. at the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.Memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the funeral home.
