Jamie "Nikki" Nicole Short, 39, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025.

She was born in Alton, IL on December 24, 1985, the daughter of Linda M. Short and Gregory J. Romano. Originally from Bethalto, she lived a full and vibrant life in many places, including New York City, Mexico, England, St. Louis, Las Vegas, San Diego, Denver, and Portland.

Nikki lived her life as a free spirit. She loved to travel the world and spent much of her time caring about her friends, neighbors, and the less fortunate. She also loved animals, especially her dog, Moose.

Nikki was a dedicated Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Oregon. During her career, she provided gender affirming care, helped people with eating disorders, and supported many struggling with their mental health. She was a very passionate advocate for marginalized and unhoused individuals. Most recently, she spent time volunteering at the Food Pantry in Caseyville, IL.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Linda and Mark Miriani; father and step-mother, Gregory and Kellie Romano; brother and sister-in-law, Zachary and Alana Romano; sister, Lily Romano; maternal grandfather, Ralph "Russ" Short; paternal grandparents, Frank and Barb Romano; grandfather, Ben Miriani; step-brother and wife, Steven and Amy Lorenz; step-brother and wife, Anthony and Alexandria Miriani; several aunts, Connie Stephens, Rusty Shields, Julie Romano; uncles, Jeff Romano, Darryl Shields; many cousins; and countless incredible friends.

Preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Lois Pruitt, aunt Ellen Scroggins (Short), uncle Bob Scroggins, and uncle Curtis Short.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home (727 E Bethalto Blvd, Bethalto IL 62010). Longtime family friend, Danny Michel, will officiate.
