James Wedderburn

James William Wedderburn, 87, passed away 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born on February 2, 1927 in Oak Hill, West Virginia, he was the son of Raymond and Ruby (Ingram) Wedderburn.

A World War II army veteran, he was a member of East Alton American Legion Post 794 and Wood River V.F.W. Post 2859 and had been employed as a crane operator for Laclede Steel before retiring.  He then served as a maintenance man for Professional Landscaping.

On September 20, 1948 in Minden, WV, he married the former Mary Esther Poston.  She died April 26, 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Ricky Wedderburn (Becky Arnold) of East Alton, Randy Wedderburn of Salisbury, NC; a daughter, Ruby (Bill) Lowry of Wood River; eight grandchildren, Darla McCoy, Tim Lowry, Tiffany Wedderburn, Alex Wedderburn, Stephen Wedderburn, Andrew Arnold, Chad Wedderburn, Mary Wedderburn; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, James W. Wedderburn; and two brothers, Harry and Charles Wedderburn.

Visitatino will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to HOPE Animal Rescue.
