James Smith

James Wesley Smith, 61, died at 3:22 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at his home. Born December 6, 1950 in Wood River, he was the son of Roscoe Wesley and Nellie Louise (Mathus) Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.

He worked as a boiler mechanic for the State of Missouri. He was an active Boy Scout leader, seeing both of his sons and others achieve Eagle Scout. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and spending as much time with them as possible.

On November 24, 1973 in Boston, MA, he married the former Denise Salaris. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jaymie Smith (Amy) of Godfrey, and Brent Smith (Katy) of Alton, three grandchildren, Kasey and Jackson Smith and Noah Myers, three brothers and two sisters.

A memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.
