Mr. James R Henderson, affectionately known as “Hen”, 75, transitioned peacefully this life Saturday, January 29, 2022, at St Anthony’s of Alton. “Hen” was born September 21, 1946, in Arkansas, He was born to the union of Viola Crowder and Earl Henderson.
James graduated from Alton High School in 1965. In 1966 he joined the United States Army and completed a Fuel and electrical systems course as a Private in the United States Army. He also received a medal for National Defense Service Medal Sharpshooter. James was employed with Shell Refinery, Amtrak, and Olin Corporation during his working life.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Sam and Annie Lee (Smith) Crowder, his father: Earl Henderson, his uncles Sylvester and Lawrence Crowder and aunts Mammie Lee Crowder and Odessa (Smith) Wallace, and grandson Paul Cooley Jr

He leaves to cherish: his loving mother, Viola Jackson of Alton; wife, Janis Henderson of Alton, sister Gwen Jackson, three aunts, Maxine Hughes, Gloria Mitchell, and Yvonne Stevenson. Son Troy Henderson, daughters Dedria (Paul) Cooley, Mellissa Henderson, Ginger Hyde, and Brittany Shorter. Stepson Twain (Len)Perry and stepdaughter Sharon Perry. Grandchildren, Kenyatta Banks, Myron Shelby, Octavia Wheeler, Twanna Gordon, Quan, Bryant, Leon, Cameron, Karma, Tawani Perry, Greg Cross Jr. Dylan, Honor, Demitrius Thomas. Great Grandchildren CJ, Ivy Gordon, Peyton Cross, and Ace Perry His beloved pet Michael “MJ” Jackson who misses him dearly. A host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will convene from 9 until the time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2022, at Harrison Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
