James R. Anderson, 79, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at his home.
He was born March 4, 1931 in Harrisburg, Ill.
On Dec. 31, 1952, he married Doris A. Cannon in San Diego, Calif. She survives.
A sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Linda and Kelly Bedard of Heber Springs, Ark., Vicki and John Waltrip of Godfrey, Rich Anderson and Cathy Dalton of Edwardsville, Tom and Debbie Anderson of Bethalto, and Sam and Myra Anderson of Godfrey; 7 grandchildren, Nicole Smith and her husband Tyler, James, Kevin, Kelsey, Christina, and Mary Anderson, and Kaylee Bedard; one great grandchild, Shiloh Smith; 6 sisters, Betty Lewis of Yuba City, Calif., Frieda Linton of Florence, Wis., Margaret Anderson of Hardy, Ark., Sanette Taylor of Hazelwood, Mo., Sherry Bugg of Wood River, and Judy Mullins of Meadowbrook; a brother, John Anderson of Cherokee Village, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Anderson, Mary Anderson and Zayda Anderson; a granddaughter, Casey Anderson; a sister, Virginia Nader; and two brothers, Bob Anderson and Larry Starkey.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Norman Wilfong at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with full military honors.
