James Riley

James L. Riley, 86, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at his home.

Born May 16, 1932 in Roodhouse, IL, he was a son of William and Ava Marie (Savage) Riley.

He married Halle L. Helenthal March 14, 1953 in Roodhouse. She preceded him in death May 11, 2006.

Jim loved working on cars and worked as a self-employed mechanic. He also repaired diesel engines for a time in East St. Louis. He enjoyed spending time with his family, telling jokes and going out to eat. He was a huge John Wayne fan and could often be found watching old western movies.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Berry of Port Orange, FL; a son, Steven Riley of Wood River; 8 grandchildren, Dusty Robins, Amie (Jamie) Wells, Amber Robins (Andy Lucker), Melina (Doug) Moutria, Jon (Deirdre) Schrader, Krista Riley, Cody Riley, and Michelle Sinclair; 7 great grandchildren, Braeden, Evan, Tyler, Gregory, Robert, Logen, Leighton, and Kellan; a son-in-law and his wife, Joe and Rhonda Robins; and a nephew, Rodney Riley of East Alton.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Ralph, Jerry and Mike Riley; and a brother, Ross Riley.

Visitation will be at Paynic Home for Funerals on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. until services begin at 12 p.m. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
