James L. “Bud” Martin, 92, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. Born June 15, 1920 in Alton, he was the son of James T. and Julia (Turner) Martin. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post 3912. In 1982, he retired as a Grinder for Con Agra in Alton. He was a member of Curdie Heights Baptist Church where he served as deacon and later became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. On January 23, 1942 in St. Charles, MO, he married the former Jackie Hopper. She survives.
In addition to his wife Jackie, he is survived by daughter, Cynthia J. Chestnut of St. Louis, MO, a son, James M. Martin of St. Louis, MO, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
Reverend Rick Patrick will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
