James Hill

James Allen Hill, 80, passed away at 3:39 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home in Jerseyville, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on June 16, 1943 in Calhoun County, Illinois, one of five children born to the late Rev. Dorcie and Rita (Marshing) Hill.

He married the former Dolores Knight on June 20, 1970 in Jerseyville, and together their marriage has been blessed with 53 years of wonderful memories shared with their children and grandchildren.

Allen was employed for many years with P & R Construction in Jerseyville, was a longtime and faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Jerseyville. He will be fondly remembered for his Christian values and for the hard work in the community and providing for his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and had many friendships throughout his blessed life.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores Hill of Jerseyville; two daughters and sons in-law, Kathy (Hill) and Edd Kothe of Jerseyville and Brenda (Hill) and Shawn Bertoglio of Zephyrhills, Florida; three grandchildren, Amanda (Kothe) and Joey Greene, Amber (Bertoglio) and Jordin Chouinar and Dillion Bertoglio; three brothers and sisters in-law, Deon and Linda Hill, Roger and Debbie Hill and Olin and Debbie Hill; as well as a sister and brother in-law, Louise and Paul Williams, all of Jerseyville.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2023 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday with Pastor Adam Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
