James "Jim" Halford, aged 89, passed away peacefully at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Jim was born on April 26th, 1935, in Alton, to the late Ray W. and Georgia G. (Whitten) Halford. He was married to Dorothy “Tiny” (Goheen) Halford in 1954, who preceded him in death in December 2009. Together they raised their two children in Godfrey and share many wonderful memories. Jim was blessed with a second love, Ms. Carol and they shared many adventures and memories in their beloved Gulf Shores.
Jim began his career at Tri-City Grocery and was promoted to manager at the age of 19. He retired with Schnucks after 40+ years. Jim had a passion for hunting, fishing, and boating and he was a lifelong member of the Alton Wood River Sportsman’s Club (Pleasant Hill) and member of the Alton Motor Boat Club. Known for his hard work and his love of having a good time, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, p-hill family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of fun and his well-known motto, "Der goes da rules," will be cherished by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his loving companion, Carol Hunter of Glen Carbon; his daughter, Debbie Wedding and her husband, Collie, of Godfrey; his son, Jim Halford and his wife, Rhonda, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and five grandchildren: Amy Arnold (Tim), Jennifer Henkhaus (Tony), Marissa French (Scott), Derek Halford (Ahni), and Brent Halford (Ashley). He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren: Katelyn and Kamryn Rogers; Jacob, Kenedee, and Kace Halford; Gus and Sam Arnold; and Lilly and Alli Henkhaus.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024. Pastor Cory Johnston will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
