James Franklin Boyer, 92, died at 11:52 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born September 10, 1921 in Orangeville, IL, he was the son of Guy and Stella (Phillips) Boyer. Mr. Boyer ministered in several Christian churches throughout the state of Illinois and was currently a member of the First Christian Church in Alton. He was also involved in the bulldozing business for many years. He enjoyed wood working and bee keeping. He and his wife were active as dorm parents at St. Louis Christian College for four years. He was a founding member and served on the board for 60 years of the Mac-Gomery Christian Service Camp located near Beaver Dam State Park. On December 29, 1940 he married the former Eleanor “Elly” Lafferty. She survives. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Michelle Daniels of Madison, Wisconsin and a daughter-in-law, Diane Boyer of Alton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Daniels in 1995, a son, Stephen Boyer in 2008, and a brother, Berl Boyer. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the First Christian Church, 760 Washington Avenue, Alton, IL. Jim Johnston will officiate.
