James Edward "Jim" Holmes, 69, died at 12:40 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his residence.He was born in Granite City on Dec. 21, 1943, and was the son of the late Louis & Kathryn (Wyatt) Holmes.James began working for the City of Carrollton until the age of 25, when he became an autobody technician working for various establishments throughout the area.He married the former Linda Huett on Oct. 28, 1978 in Jerseyville, officiated by Rev. Wilbur Cain, and the two have shared the past 34 loving years together.Jim enjoyed hunting with family and going to breakfast to listen to all the hunting lore that everyone had.  He also enjoyed fishing, especially when he was able to watch the grandkids bring a fish in.  Many hours were spent watching outdoor and sport programs on the television with his grandson, Josh, who lived with them.Surviving are his wife, Linda Holmes of Jerseyville; a son & daughter in law, Craig & Suzie Holmes of Eldred; a daughter, Melissa Veenendall of Jerseyville; six grandchildren, Joshua Holmes, Brittany Holmes, Katie Veenendall, Mike Shenberger, Joe Bailey and Julie Drake; a great grandson, Jourdan Duda; a sister & brother n law, Brenda & Ed Gilbert of Eldred; two brothers & sisters in law, Kirby & Mary Holmes of Carrollton and Zach & Donna Holmes of Brussels; three sisters in law, Ruth Ann Swearingim of Jerseyville, Lisa Summers of Grafton, and Lana Scheffel of Brighton; four brothers in law, Jack Huett of Jerseyville, David Spangle of Bridge City, Tx., Russ Spangle & Bob Spangle both of Jerseyville; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Anita Taylor and Betty Newingham.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate.Burial will be in the Borlin Cemetery in rural Carrollton.Memorials may be given to his family in care of the funeral home.The family would like to extend a special thank you to his sister in law, Lana Scheffel, for the special care given to Jim during his illness.
