James Staten

James E. Staten, 77, died at 3:36 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital.  Born June 8, 1933 in Alton, he was the son of Benjamin F. and Catherine (Baker) Staten.  He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  He owned and operated Staten Lawn Service. 

On July 18, 1954 in Orlando, FL, he married the former Georgia L. Zigrang.  She survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Jami C. Bender of Grand Prairie, TX and Gina Angel and her husband Mike of Medora, one son, Chris Staten and his wife Amy of Edwardsville, five grandchildren, Christopher Bender and his wife Aire, Matthew Bender, Shannon Clagg and her husband Jeff, Clayton Angel and Logan Staten, two step grandchildren, Brendan and Jacob Wolff, and two sisters, Verna of Jerseyville and Kaye of Rosewood Heights.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard and a sister, Evelyn. 

Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 5:30 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.  Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul in care of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
