James D. “Red” Fairless, 76, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 9:48 pm, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 13, 1942 in Alton, IL, the son of James Edward and Clarice (Hatcher) Fairless, both preceded him in death. He married Virginia Peters, they have been married for 55 years. She survives.
Jim worked at Langin Auto Body and Andy’s Auto Body. He enjoyed building and driving street rods and going to car shows.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two children, Terry (Jaci) Fairless of Rosewood Heights, and Dena Hankins of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Amanda (boyfriend Ryan Moore) Hankins, Alyssa Fairless, Meghan (finace Nico James) Fairless, and Brianna Flack; five great-grandchildren, Olivia Beasley, Lydia Beasley, Jackson Mellenthin, Camden Moore, and Mayden Moore (who is expected soon); a sister, Patricia Horton of Pensacola, FL; five brothers, Karmen Fairless of Godfrey, Tiny Waggoner of Roxana, Diane Ross of Bethalto, Danny Colman of Holiday Shores, and Butch Colman of Godfrey; as well as his dog, Skippy.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Chaplain Bruce Baumgarter officiating.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
