James C. “Jim” Banks, 86, died at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born April 6, 1926 in McDonough County, IL, he was the son of Merle and Eula (Morris) Banks. Mr. Banks served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton. He was an industrial Arts teacher in the Alton School District from 1951 until his retirement in 1981. On September 18, 1949 in Peoria, IL, he married the former Patsy Hulson. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Gary Banks (Holly) of Worden, Barb Banks of Ballwin, MO, and Greg Banks (Mary) of St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren, Nathan, Daniel, Patrick, Timothy, Kendall, and Bridget Banks. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert R. Banks. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton. Reverend Jamie Hahs will officiate.
