Jack R. Whitaker, 82, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at his home.
Born Feb. 26, 1929 in Alton, he was a son of Ernest and Vida (Watkins) Whitaker.
He married Hilda Marie Trail Nov. 23, 1957 in Rosewood Heights. She passed away Aug. 10, 1994.
Jack worked as a steelworker for Laclede Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. He was formerly a member of the Tri-County Rod & Gun Club in Brighton.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Joseph) Schwarberg of Bethalto; a son, Walter (Diane) Frazier of Glen Carbon; four grandchildren, Craig (Diana) Frazier, DeeAnn (Allen) Billings, and Adam and Brad Schwarberg; three great grandchildren, IsaBella, Jaiden, and Addison; two sisters, Virginia Cairns of Brighton, and Alice Thaxton of St. Charles, Mo.; and two brothers, Bob Whitaker of Bethalto and Vernon “Pete” (Kay) Whitaker of Brighton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Richard Newcom on Monday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton.
Memorials may be made to the Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church in Wood River.
