Jack K. Kruegel Sr., 88, passed away at 9 pm Monday May 20, 2013 at Provisions Living.
He was born on January 15, 1925 in St. Louis, MO, son of Otto and Bertha (Ballard) Kruegel.
He served in the Navy during WWII and was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308.
He was also a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus Hall and loved traveling.
He married Katherine Heintz on July 12, 1949 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She preceded him in death on October 14, 2005.
He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and is survived by: four children, Sue & Tony Certa of Maryville, IL, Jack & Sherry Kruegel Jr. of Wood River, Nancy & Bill Orrill of Godfrey and Patti Kruegel of Alton; twelve grandchildren, Diane (Doug) Villhard, Julie (Pete) Villhard, Lisa (Andy) Kraus, Monica (Dr. Ed) Grabiec, Tony (Kim) Certa, Mark (Jamie) Certa, Nick (Laura) Certa, Maryanne Certa, Jack Kruegel III, Daniel Kruegel, Lyndsay Kruegel and Jason (Kelly) Kruegel; twenty five great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Vi Kruegel of Rosewood Heights, and a brother-in-law, Bill Heintz of Godfrey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday May 24, 2013 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday May 25, 2013 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Richard Lubeley.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be given to: Saints Vincent DePaul Society, Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, Fr. McGivney Catholic High School in Maryville or Masses at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
