Jack D. Glenn, age 84, of Alton, passed away at 4:05 am, on Monday, October 6, 2014, at St. Clare’s Hospital in Alton, with his family by his side.
The sixth of eight children, Jack was born June 6, 1930, in Sioux Rapids, IA to the late Andrew Emery and Clara Naomi (Brown) Glenn.
Jack married the former Helen Lucille Haas 58 years ago on February 24, 1956 at Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton and she survives.
He retired on July 1, 1992 from Mississippi Lime Company after 15 years of service and was formerly employed with Great Plains Gas and Emerich Hardwar. Jack enjoyed many summers fishing for crappie at Lake of the Ozarks, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and John Wayne movies. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Mark Kestler of East Alton; three granddaughters, Kaleigh Short and husband, Jason, of Caseyville, Ashley and Ginny Massalone of East Alton: one great-grandson and his “main man”, Carter Jackson Short; one brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Nancy Glenn of Carlinville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ilene Winters of Carlinville, Gail Darr, and Jean and Kenneth Abner both of Godfrey; two sister-in-law, Flora Glenn of Chesterfield, IL and Shirley Glenn of Park Hills, MO; numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends, Dick and Evelyn Witt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Roger Glenn; one sister, Mildred Tipton and his mother and father-in-law, Conrad Henry and Elizabeth Mildred Haas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 8, 2014, from 4 to 8 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014, at 10 am, with the Elder Andy Glenn officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with military rites by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, St. Anthony’s Hospice or a memorial of one’s choice.
