Iris Hicks

Iris June Hicks, 78, passed away at 6:47pm on Friday, August 5, 2011, at Bethalto Care Center.  She was born on August 24, 1932, in Dyer, Tennessee the daughter of the late Aubrey and Maureen (Dozier) Taylor.  She married Orval Hicks in September of 1955 in Hartford and he preceded her in death in 1990.  Survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Richard "Rick" and Teresa Hicks of Rosewood Heights and Daniel and Jesse Hicks of Lakeland, Florida, six grandchildren: Amy Hicks, Angela Edwards, Kimberly Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Patrick Hicks, Heather Clark, six great grandchildren: Payton Keeney, Katie Main, Adrian Hicks, Brooklyn Hicks, Lainey Edwards, and two brothers and sisters in law: Hamer and Delores Taylor of Bethalto, and Eugene and Mary Taylor of Peoria, Illinois.

She was formerly employed at Reese's Drug Store as a cashier,  Zikes Drug Store in Rosewood Heights, and Olin Corp. as an operator.  She was the former owner of June's Folly Antique Shop in Alton.  She was a member of the Bethalto United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother: William Taylor, and one sister: Dorothy Frye. 

In celebration of her life, visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.  Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at the funeral home.  Pastor Chip Faulkner will officiate.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. 

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
