Imogene Elliott

Imogene M. Elliott, 87, passed away at 6:28 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her children.She was born near Fieldon, Il., on May 16, 1924, one of three children born to the late Joseph & Rachel (Gunterman) McKinney.She attended Medora High School, and it was there that she met her future husband, Strait B. Elliott.  The two were married on July 15, 1941 in St. Charles, Mo., and they shared 55 years together before his death on Oct. 30, 1996.Imogene was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker.  She enjoyed volunteering at Jersey Community Hospital, and while raising her children, she was active in both the Cub Scouts and 4-H Clubs.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, crafts, bowling, and found a semblance of peace in collecting Boyd Bears after the death of her husband.  Although Imogene enjoyed many outside activities, nothing compared the the joy she experienced when surrounded by her family.She is survived by her three children & their spouses, Diana & Bob Travis of Holiday Shores, Sandy & Dick Rowling of Grafton, and Ted Elliott of Jerseyville; five grandchildren & their spouses, Keith Klopfer of Springfield, Brad & Kim Klopfer of Valparaiso, In., Dickie Rowling, Kim Zimmerman and Gary & Chris Rowling all of Grafton; a step grandson, Jason Travis of Hazelwood, Mo.; seven great grandchildren, Jacob & Jessie Klopfer, Ashley & Emily Rowling, David & Rachel Zimmerman, and Megan Rowling.  He is also survived by a sister in law, Barbara Scott of Godfrey, along with numerous neices and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents,  husband, a grandson, Christopher Klopfer on Sept.14, 2001, two brothers & sisters in law, Frank & Thelma McKinney, and Joseph & Emily McKinney.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  Rev. William Hendricks of the First Baptist Church in Grafton will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County in recognition of the love and compassion that they have shown.
