Ilene Holterfield

Ilene G. Holterfield, 79, died at 3:45 p.m., Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.She was born in Hammond, In., on April 2, 1931, one of four children born to the late Paul & Georgia (Lee) Trappey.After the death of her mother when Ilene was nine years of age, she and her siblings were raised by their aunt in the Calhoun County area, where she attended Kampsville schools.She married Joseph W. Holterfield on Nov. 20, 1946 in Hardin, and together they raised their family of three sons of their farm in Calhoun County for many years, and eventually moved to the Eldred area.  After the death of her husband on Sept. 1, 1975, Ilene decided to relocate to Jerseyville where she has made her home since.She was a very loving woman who was always "on the go".  She enjoyed spending time with her family, either preparing a delicious meal, or sitting down and playing a game of cards, or her favorite board game, Scrabble.Surviving are her three sons & daughters in law, David L. Holterfield of Beardstown, Terrence B. & Nancy Holterfield of Versailles, and Kenneth L. and Sandra Holterfield of St. Peters, Mo.; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Marie Bland of Wood River; and a brother, Leroy Trappey of Jerseyville.In addition to her parents and husband, preceding her in death were two brothers, Eugene Trappey & John Trappey.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday.Burial will take place in the Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
