Howard W. “Wayne” Spencer, 72, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at his home.
Born Dec. 31, 1938 in Harrisburg, Ark., he was a son of Ollie R. and Esther Hunt Spencer.
He married Patricia K. Pinkowski June 23, 1962 in Alton. She survives.
The U.S. Army veteran was the owner of Samaritan Handyman Service for 31 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Michele “Cheli” Strode and her husband Skip of O’Fallon, Mo.; two sons and their wives, Steven and Linda Spencer of Cottage Hills and Kenny W. and April Spencer of Alton; 6 grandchildren, Derek, Olivia, Rebecca, Spencer, Braden and Isaac; four sisters, Betty Jo Smith of Arkansas, Jewel Roley and her husband George of Michigan, Lorene McCain of Baton Rouge, La., and Mary Helen Dristell of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two brothers, Donald Ray “Salty” Spencer of Memphis, Tenn. and Ollie Spencer, Jr. and his wife of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by 10 siblings.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 7, 2011 at New Wine Family Church in Wood River from 11 a.m. until services begin at 4 p.m.
Patricia wrote the following: Our family would like to give honor to our beloved husband, father, and grandfather “Wayne”. He devoted his life to us and would do anything he could for us. Wayne was my devoted husband who protected me, supported my endeavors, loved me deeply and was my love for almost 49 years. After receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior in 1972, his love for God was steadfast and unwavering. Together we ministered in churches, homes, and one-on-one. He never met a stranger and showed help and love to all God sent to him. He fed the widows and was a mentor and encourager to many. His words of Faith and love will always be in our memories.
