Later, he became a union industrial painter for Hartman-Walsh of St. Louis. He, along with his wife, also owned the Beer Barrel Pub in Godfrey for 17 years.

Holger loved spending time outdoors with his friends, especially at his cabin in Greenfield, Illinois. He was an avid sportsman. Over the years, he spent as much time as he could deer and turkey hunting. Some of his adventures included bear hunting in Canada, deep sea fishing in Mexico, and elk hunting in Colorado.
