Hildegard M. “Hilde” Few, 94, of Collinsville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Manor Court of Maryville.
She was born February 11, 1930, in Munich, Germany, a daughter of the late Franz and Elizabeth (Prechtl) Klosterhuber.
She married Daryl B. Few in 1948 and he passed away on February 1, 2002.
Hilda had retired from Sylvia Hat Company in St. Louis after many years of service as an office manager. She was a faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City where she was active with Church Women United and with the Evening Guild. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 877, DeMolay Mother’s Club, World War II War Bride’s Association and the Tri Cities Area Association for the Handicapped. She also served as a volunteer at Cahokia Mounds for over 20 years, loved her days of exercising and was always on the go.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vickey Few of Glen Carbon; two grandchildren, Travis and Amanda Few of Freeburg and Megan Few of Glen Carbon; four great grandchildren, Zachary, Logan, Raylynn and Ryker Few; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded by two sons, George Erwin Few and Daryl Lamar Few and a sister, Elsa Braunmeuller.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Road in Granite City on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Reverend Karla Frost officiating.
Burial will be at St. John United Church of Christ on Nameoki Road in Granite City.
